Welcome to Pomena, a place and harbor on the western coast of the island of Mljet that is connected to the city of Dubrovnik by daily boat lines. Pomena lies in the bay of the same name, suitable for anchoring smaller yachts. The place has some 50 inhabitants who primarily live off of agriculture, fishing and tourism, the latter gaining more and more importance. Pomena is, like the entire island of Mljet, part of which has been proclaimed a National Park, surrounded by a dense Aleppo pine forest.
